Maddy is in Year 6 and feels like an outsider in her sporty family. She has also recently lost her only two school friends. One moved away, and the other, Blaiisey, turned against her for unknown reasons. Thankfully, she has her dear pug, Gutso. But Gutso goes missing! Maddy is devastated and determined to find him. While searching, she comes across a large dog sitting by itself. Maddy tries to pat him, but he bites her. Suddenly, she can understand his dog speak, and Chompsky, the dog, can understand her. Chompsky is looking for his owner, John, and Maddy agrees to help him. Unfortunately, John has had a medical emergency, and his sister, Cynthia, who is staying at John’s house, does not want Chompsky's company. Maddy decides to hide Chompsky in her room until John returns, or at least until she finds Gutso. Maddy soon realises that not only Chompsky can talk to her, but all dogs! When Maddy discovers that multiple dogs have gone missing recently, she must use her power to save them. A playful and gripping mystery story for dog enthusiasts.
