Fen is travelling by coach to see his Mother who is about to have a baby. He gets to ride in the front with Edward (or Ned), the coach driver. When Ned shows Fen about holding the six reigns, he has a go. But bushrangers hold up the coach. Ned pretends to do as the bushranger says, but as Fen still has the reigns he signals for him to take off. They speed away from the bushrangers, but have to overcome the brakes failure and the carriage going faster than the horses. Fen and Ned need to keep the horses galloping until they go up hill and the coach slows down. While the passengers get considerably worried, they make it safely. The coach driver is based on a real person.
