Temora Tempest used to think she was just a regular girl, but she is one of the wordspinners from the fantastical Lunary World, tasked with bringing stories and dreams to the children of the other realm. But with the Wordsnatcher on the loose, the stories of the wordspinners are at risk. Other children are made wordless, like Calliope in Book 1, including Wen Darling. With the weight of protecting children from the Wordsnatcher's horrible machine on her shoulders, Temora continues to have nightmares. The Literati have also taken over from the Wordsmith as administrators of Lyfthelm Tower. They invite the Colophon to the school, controlling the teachings and restricting the responsibilities of the guardians—they are no longer allowed to enter dreams! Lavenza, Tybalt, Emmeline, Maxim, Asrak and Temora form an underground group to combat the Literati and the Colphon and investigate the Wordsnatcher, calling themselves The Sentinels.
