Just like his dad, Isaac Turner loves clocks. His dad, Diggory, is a horologist. One day, Isaac and his dad go to Big Ben to change the time for daylight savings. When his dad goes further up the clock into the belfry, he mysteriously disappears. Although Isaac calls the police, no one can find his dad. He goes to stay with his Godfather, Solomon Bassala, who is the speaker of the House of Commons. Isaac sees Hattie, Solomon’s daughter, sneaking past his window on the second story. Hattie is an adventurous girl who likes climbing in and out of buildings that make up Westminster Palace and using the roofs as a highway. She has discovered many ways into and out of buildings without being seen. When Isaac travels home to get some of his things, he recovers his dad's diary and a card. Isaac is determined to find his dad and decides to trust Hattie when she reveals that Diggory was not the only person in the belfry when he disappeared. Together they investigate the disappearance, starting by sneaking into Ben Big to see if they can find any clues.
