Willa Tait embarks on her first school camp at Camp Valley View. When Willa’s old-age friend, Frank, gets stuck behind his washing machine and his villa floods, he moves in with the Tait family. With Frank staying at the Tait’s home, he offers to teach Willa and Tae some camping skills, as Frank was a scout leader. Frank says it is important to know how to build a fire, tie knots, and have basic first aid training. Before Willa knows it, it’s Wednesday morning and time for camp. She says goodbye to Woof, an albino Irish wolfhound, and sets off. She’s got her special kit including a rope, a magnifying glass, some bandaids, spray for insect bites and a crepe bandage. Once on camp, things don’t go well, and Tae and Willa need to use their skills to help their fellow students and camp leader. With a rumour circulating of a ‘mud monster’, and after strange noises at night and the disappearance of food, Willa is convinced that it is her dog, Woof, but thinks it can’t be, as Woof should be at home. A heartwarming story about friendship and resilience for children who love dogs.
