13-year-old twins Keedie & Nina live in a Scottish town called Juniper. Keedie and Nina have always been good friends until Nina meets a boy and becomes a part of the popular group. Nina no longer has time for Keedie and finds her unusual personality embarrassing. Trying to fit into the teenage world is hard enough, but having an autistic twin makes it worse. Addie is the younger sister of the twins. She is displaying similar traits to Keedie. However, the family will not accept that she could have autism. Keedie does not conform to the norm, making herself stand out and continuously embarrassing Nina. Nina and her friends are involved in the bullying at school, pushing Keedie to appear to rebel even more. Keedie decides someone should stand up for those who can't stand up for themselves, and at the school dance, Keedie says no to bullying on behalf of a student. Keedie becomes popular overnight. The bullied students quickly begin to ask for her help, and initially, Keedie says no. However, when they offer money in exchange for her services, she jumps to make some extra cash. A powerful story about bullying and autism. This is the prequel to A Kind of Spark.
