Just as his time at primary school ends, Frank John Davenport discovers he has a step-grandmother, Nora. Unfortunately, he finds this out after she dies. In her will, she has left him £462,000 and instructions to care for his grandfather, Frank Davenport Senior Senior. His newly revealed grandfather has early signs of dementia and is in Autumnal Leaves Residential Home. Young Frank's father, Frank James Davenport Senior, is given some jigsaws, a teddy and £230 on or after his eighteenth birthday. This blatant mix-up has some hilarious consequences as young Frank enjoys the new connection with his grandfather, taking his responsibility to care for him seriously. His father is a con artist, causing them to move frequently, and his working mother plays tennis on her time off, with neither of them having much time for young Frank. Frank comes up with the idea of a bucket list, convincing his grumpy grandpa to participate by promising to buy him a villa in Spain with the leftover money. His grandpa reluctantly agrees. What follows is a whirlwind of crazy adventures as his grandpa is drawn into the activities that Frank organises.
