John Jones [Jack] and his best friend Andrew Paterson [Banjo] are adventurous and constantly getting into trouble. They live on Rottnest Island during WWII, and their parents are involved with building an aerodrome to support the Airforce. Some of their adventures include finding a live grenade, building and crashing go-carts, sneaking onto an army base to steal tar for a canoe, rescuing a barge crew from a fire and meeting Australian Prime Minister, John Curtain. Throughout their adventures, they interact with other people on the island. An incredible, empathetic, and enjoyable story about what life would have been like for young boys during WWII in Australia.
