While a little girl walks down to a billabong, she notes the Australian creatures and plants she sees. She spies a black and white magpie warbling, bull ant nests in the scribbly gums, singing cockatoos holding choir sheets, millipedes, blue fairy wrens playing red guitars in the lemon myrtle, and Christmas beetles in the orange banksia. She also sees a brown emu playing the bass drum, several stick insects on purple fan flowers, red and green king parrots boogieing away, and dragonflies swarming above billy buttons. When a storm rolls in, she hides under a branch, telling the parrots to put on boots, the emu to wear a raincoat, the fairy-wrens to grab umbrellas, the cockatoos to put their books away, and the magpie to snuggle up and shelter from the rain. When the storm ends and the sun shines, a rainbow appears. While the girl jumps in puddles with the gumboot-wearing parrots, they happily sing together.
