Cora lives with her parents and sister. Her Dad purchases a rundown theatre and the family moves from Ispwich to Tasmania. Cora, a tongue-tied, unconfident 12-year-old, feels she has the chance to reinvent herself. Whilst helping her Dad with renovations, Cora learns about Clair du Lune, a jazz singer who found fame at the theatre. Dad has found a photo and book about Clair which he gives to Cora. Bekah, Cora’s sister finds a room in the basement full of costumes. They love to play dress up. On one occasion Cora finds a letter in a dresser signed by Clair, which is addressed to Bug, the same nickname her grandfather used for her. Cora then starts writing letters to Clair signing them as Bug but decides to hide the letters in the Clair du Lune book under her bed. In these letters, Cora shares her deepest feelings. After a burst pipe floods her bedroom, the letters go missing, but the last thing she expected was for her letters to be printed in the local newspaper. Is Cora ready for people to know how she really feels?
