    Seventeen-year-old Fallon has grown up in Isariah, three hours from the Gilded City. She is cursed with pain when touched. When Fallon’s adoptive father is seriously injured, she must leave to find a cure from an apothecary in the Gilded City or bring a fae back to the house. People in Isariah are seen as outcasts because they cannot practice magic, making this a challenging mission. Fallon travels to The Academy, hoping to find a student willing to heal her father for free. She discovers that poor people with weak magic live on the West Side of the Gilded City. The Academy is on the East Side, where all the wealthy and proud fae live. Fallon meets a fae at the student clinic called Ariyon and is instantly attracted to him. Although he initially agrees to come with her, he changes his mind when he learns she is from the banished area of Isariah. However, Ariyon also smells that Fallon has a powerful magic. He decides to go with her if she returns tomorrow to meet Headmaster Clarke. Ariyon is a Maven Healer. When he heals people, he gives them some of his life. Maven healers are often dead by 30.
