Penny loves writing in her journal to her dog, Cosmo, about her day-to-day life as a fifth grader. She spends time with her mum, younger brother and her grandmothers. Her mum is also about to have twins! After dealing with friendship issues in the first book, Penny has a new friend group: Maria, Rocco, and Petra. They all decide to get involved with the school play. Petra has written the script about a vampire in the city, and she casts Penny as the bat and Rocco as the vampire. Penny is thankful that all she has to do is flutter, but then Petra writes her in as the narrator! Anxious about having to learn lines, Penny writes to Cosmo in her journal. Will Penny be able to overcome her fear?
