Beth Bateman is quiet, shy, artistic and has a big heart. She has a crush on Andy Saunderson, a fellow youth group leader, and believes with all her heart that God’s plan is for her to marry him someday. When a fire breaks out during a youth group leaders meeting, Andy’s life is in danger. It’s only by a miracle of the wind changing that his life is saved. Beth’s sister Clare and brother-in-law Phil set up a program for wards of the state who need a fresh start, teaching them skills and how to live in the community. One of the wards, Joel, takes an intense interest in Beth, and she believes there is more to him than he shows. Everyone is praying for someone to help build accommodation for the program, and Gus Richards arrives to fulfil the role. He makes Beth uncomfortable with his abrupt ways, but she knows he has a good heart. A new girl arrives at school, and Beth tries not to be jealous when Andy takes her under his wing. Anique is a new Christian with a rough past, looking for a new start. Beth strives at school and is hurt when a friend betrays her and accuses her of cheating. Her sister also challenges her to spend more time with the girls in the youth program. Beth makes an effort, but it backfires. Joel continues to pursue Beth, but after an incident where he shows a cruel side, she avoids him. She hears rumours around town about Anique being involved with drugs, but she struggles to believe it. As things get more complex, Beth turns to God to keep her safe.
