Product Description

Freedom is a pipe dream. At least, thatÕs what Olivia Cruikshank believes. Transported to Van DiemenÕs Land for petty theft, she has lost all hope. Six years in and out of the Cascades Female Factory has taught her none can be trusted and that her future, like her innocence, are as a vapour in the breeze. Until Michael Reeve shows upÑa prison guard unlike any other. What kind of turnkey shows compassion instead of cruelty, encouragement instead of scorn? He talks and acts like Olivia matters. Like her future matters. And heÕs not about to give up, despite opposition from every angle. Opposition that hints of danger ahead. Can Olivia learn to trust before itÕs too late? Will MickÕs kindness lead to love, or will it be his undoing? The CaptiveÕs Song is an Australian retelling with elements of Rapunzel, complete with a tower, a long braid and a beautiful song.

In 1841, Olivia Cruikshank was transported from England to Australia, serving a seven-year sentence for petty theft. Once a girl who used to dream of being a singer, Olivia has had to harden herself and, six years into her sentence is one of the most well-known convicts at the Cascades Female Factory. After being caught and tried for petty theft and absconding from her assignment, Olivia returns to the Cascades, where she meets a handsome new guard, Michael. Michael's parents were convicts, and he is a man of God who wants to change the transportation system. Mick isn't like the other guards. He's kind and gentle and never uses violence to discipline prisoners. Upon meeting, Mick is instantly intrigued by Olivia. Believing there is more to her story, Mick continues to seek her out and show her that there is hope for freedom. Olivia is sceptical of Mick, believing his kindness is for show. But when Mick stops Olivia from making a terrible mistake, will she change her mind?
