In Tortall, women aren’t allowed to become knights, but Alanna wants to be one more than anything and disguises herself as a boy to enlist in training as a royal page. She grapples with the added challenges of her body going through puberty and her developing magic to prove herself. This is the graphic novel version of a well-loved series first released in the 1980s. It sticks pretty close to the original storyline with detailed drawings. For those who enjoyed the stories, this version will bring the stories back to life. The contemporary graphic novel format immerses new readers into Tamora Pierce’s Tortall world.
