11-year-old Batthew Aromascent and his best friend Lavender Sandalwood are thrown into an adventure when the Titan Arum plant is stolen. Batthew's parents, Roger and Joy, travelled to Sumatra when Batthew was 5 years old. Batthew's aunt, Arabella, took over the Olfactory Fragrance House in Candlenut, previously run by his parents. Before they mysteriously disappeared, Roger and Joy mailed a single seed of the Titan Arum plant to Batthew. Years later, the Titan Arum is blooming. The plant blooms once and stays open for 48 hours, emitting a foul stench before closing and dying. People who collect, mix, and create smells with skill, called Noses, travel to see the plant bloom. Even Artemesius Musk from their rival fragrance house, StreetPig, is there. When the curtain is raised, it is revealed that the Titan Arum is missing. Batthew is convinced that either Jasmine Le Bouquet from the Museum District, Artemesius Musk or Vera Vetiver, known as The Viper, have stolen it. Batthew and Lavender travel to the Museum District, the Outre Museum, the StreetPig Factory and Deep Smog to search for the plant. A wonderfully written tale packed with amazing adjectives and made-up words such as sprummer (spring/summer).
