12-year-old Peregrine Quinn is caught between two worlds. Because she is Terran (from Earth), she is unable to engage with the magic of the cosmic realm or enter into the portals between the worlds. Peregrine's mother is a travel presenter and has entrusted her daughter to the care of her godfather, Daedalus. Although appearing to be the simple owner of a quirky plant nursery, Daedelus has been alive for millennia and is the former Grand Architect of the Cosmic realm, the chief inventor and the creator of the portals. Peregrine and her godfather find themselves on a secret mission inside the Bodleian library. They use a glam pass and a cloaking device to sneak into the library and check a portal between Terran and Olympus. Rowan Strong, a dryad, is on her first assignment for the cosmic realm, guarding the portal from intruders. However, she falls asleep, thanks to a jellybean-induced coma. When Rowan awakes, she is horrified that she has fallen asleep on the job. She checks the portal and discovers that it has been replaced by an impenetrable metal wall. Fearing an attack on the cosmic realm and unable to use the portals, Sybbl Vesuvian, a giantess with a legendary temper, tasks Rowan to find Daedalus. She also recruits Callimacus (Cal) Thorn, a rather unimpressive hoofer (half human, half hoofed animal), to find Peregrine Quinn. A hilarious, quirky, and magical adventure that brings the Greek gods into the 21st century.
