Product Description

An Adventure Novel for Middle-Grade Readers Steeped in Magic, Mystery, and Glimmers of Hope--Book 1 in the Dream Keeper Saga Even though she's only 12 years old, Lily McKinley already feels the weight of the world's brokenness. She's seen it in her mother's exhaustion, her grandmother's illness, and the cruelty of Adam, the bully at her school. But most tragically, she experienced it two months ago when her father died in a terrible accident. As an artistic daydreamer, Lily has a brilliant imagination to help her cope, but that imagination often gets her into trouble. One day, it transports her to a fantasy world called the Somnium Realm, where her father's secret history embroils her in an epic quest. With the help of a dragon guide named Cedric, Lily battles evil shrouds, harpies, and other creatures to find her way through grief, rescue the world from evil, and discover the power of redemption. This thrilling novel by Kathryn Butler mixes fantasy with Christian themes, taking middle-grade readers on a quest through castles, forests, and caverns to help a young girl find hope and usher in restoration.

Ever since Lily's dad died, her life has been full of sadness. When Cedric the Dragon appears looking for a missing steward, it turns out that Lily is the one. Before Lily can learn more, she is attacked by a shroud who wants to steal the stone. Lily and Cedric flee and are transported to a new realm. Cedric tells her to go to the Castle Iridyll, where the Council can help her go home. As she travels to the Castle and faces dangerous trials, a boy called Adam nearly dies. Lily cries for help, and a unicorn called Pax rescues Adam and heals his wounds. Pax also tells Lily that her dad is proud of her, indicating that he is alive. As they continue the journey, Lily encounters more shrouds who use deception and brute force to try and take the stone from Lily for their master, Eymah. After another battle with evil creatures, most of their travelling party are hurt and unable to travel. Lily creates a ship from the clouds that takes them to the castle. This reveals that she is a special steward who can craft things using her imagination. At the castle, she learns that her father is at the Cave of Lights, so she sets out to go there, but even more obstacles stand in her way. Will Lily ever find her father and be able to return home? An engaging tale of good versus evil with strong Christian themes. This is the first book in the Dream Keeper Saga.
