Rana's story-telling abilities are not highly valued in her wolf pack. But when a dragon crash lands near the home of the Great Pack, she is in demand. The dragon will only speak to Rana. Together with Lyricon the dragon, Rana discovers the world of magic. She learns to speak to other creatures and empathise with their lot. Rana intercedes with the wolf council to let Lyricon go. When they refuse, Lyricon sets up an enormous signal that draws his dragon family near and nearly destroys the Great Pack entirely. Only Rana and her brother Fenn are able to save the majority of the pack by leading them underground to safety. Rana is determined to win back the home of the wolves one day.
